Maximize Your Running Potential

What is a Running Assessment?

A Running Assessment is the examination of your running or walking pattern, also referred to as a gait analysis. During a Running Assessment, a physiotherapist will look for any biomechanical faults that may be contributing to your injury or area of concern. If you are training for a marathon or just picking up running, a Running Assessment can help reduce your risk of injury and accomplish your running goals. Video analysis is done using slow-motion capture. You also have the option to an add-on feature by extending your physiotherapy appointment by 15 minutes, getting further objective insights from RUNEASI, an artificial intelligence software.

What do we use?

RUNEASI is an artificial intelligence software developed in Belgium that can give us further objective insights on your running or walking pattern. RUNEASI allows us to generate a Running Quality score that can help us gauge your baseline running quality and can sometimes help us catch nuances that the naked eye might have missed. RUNEASI looks at several parameters that have been studied to have the potential to contribute to running injuries. They are Dynamic Instability, Impact Magnitude/Impact Duration, Ground Contact Time, Cadence and Overall Symmetry between Left and Right. Both the slow-motion video gait analysis and RUNEASI data allow us to prevent injuries by catching them early or help us work together to more concretely draw out a treatment plan.

When you come in for a Running Assessment, you can expect the following:

One of our trained physiotherapists will have you complete a short run or walk on a treadmill to assess your walking or running pattern.

This also looks at your:

* posture

* range of motion

* strength

* neuromuscular control

Upon the completion of the assessment you receive guidance around terrain, shoes, training volume (if necessary), an evidence guided treatment plan, and home exercises to progress treatment.

After the video analysis and/or the RUNEASI gait analysis, the relevant data can be shared to you and/or uploaded onto your patient file.

A sports science session report for runesi, showing a running session lasting 2 minutes and 40 seconds, with a cadence of 160, no speed or inclination provided, and a running quality score of 38% indicating high impact loading. The report features a running silhouette, a dynamic stability gauge at 38%, and a recommendation to focus on dynamic stability for better hip mobility and strength. It also includes a QR code for more information.
Charts displaying biomechanical screening metrics including impact magnitude, impact duration, dynamic instability, and ground contact time, with color-coded labels indicating performance levels, on a red and blue background from runesi AI.
A detailed infographic titled 'Impact and Movement Compensation Metrics' showing metrics related to impact and movement in sports or physical activities. It includes sections on impact metrics such as total impact, impact duration, impact magnitude, and dynamic instability, as well as spatio-temporal metrics like ground contact time and cadence. The infographic also provides reference values in both absolute and relative forms, with color-coded thresholds from green to red indicating performance levels.

Gait Analysis FAQs

  • For the most accurate assessment, please wear or bring shorts, and wear a tank top or t-shirt. We also recommend bringing a water bottle and small towel.

  • The typical running time is 10-12 minutes, which is enough to assess your mechanics at your usual pace. If we’re testing multiple speeds or helping you choose the best running shoes, the session may include a bit more running for a more complete analysis.

  • Yes, absolutely. Please allow about 1 week for us to prepare and share your videos and RunEASI documents with you.

Please note that Form Physiotherapy does not currently bill directly to your extended healthcare provider. We will email and/or print you a detailed receipt after your appointment to submit to your extended health plan.
