Standard Physiotherapy Treatment
Standard Physiotherapy Treatment
Standard physiotherapy encompasses a variety of treatment options, all of which are listed below. When you book a standard physiotherapy appointment with one of our physiotherapists, you can expect to receive an assessment of your condition, followed by the treatment method(s) that the physiotherapist decides would be most beneficial for you, and a treatment plan with goal-setting.
An Assessment is a detailed examination of multiple structures pertaining to your area of concern. It will consist of:
An observation of posture that influences your movement.
An evaluation of range of motion and mobility; we compare these values to expected norms.
A strength assessment, including function of muscles, tendons and joint structures.
Injury-specific tests that help us arrive at a diagnosis.
Establishing a working diagnosis
Treatment Methods (not limited to, but can include)
Manual therapy techniques to improve joint mobility
Soft tissue (muscle, ligament, tendon) treatment strategies to improve function
IMS (read further here)
Exercise prescription to improve mobility, strength, function, balance and performance
Education on strategies to gain independence in your physical wellness
Plan and Goal-Setting
Goals set will help determine the best plan of action and treatment parameters, including frequency and duration of sessions, and expected outcomes

Manual Therapy is a core component of a physiotherapy session, it can consist of specific joint mobilizations, soft tissue techniques, and manipulations. Exercises are commonly prescribed in addition to manual therapy to maintain the treatment progress.
At Form Physiotherapy, we value advanced skills and encourage all of our staff to become a part of Fellows of the Canadian Orthopaedic Manipulative Physiotherapists Association (FCAMPT). To achieve this accreditation, physiotherapists must complete a series of post-graduate exams displaying their knowledge and abilities of advanced manual therapy skill and assessment techniques for orthopaedic injuries.
Your physiotherapy session will begin with a thorough 45 minute initial assessment of your area of concern, followed by education and an evidence guided treatment plan, specific to your needs.

Exercise Therapy is one of the core components of a physiotherapy session. This form of therapy involves the prescription of exercises to correct individual impairments, improve mobility, strength, and neuromuscular control. Exercises are an important part of the rehabilitation process for most muscle, ligament, and joint injuries, and also play an important role in injury prevention.
If you are specifically looking for an Exercise Therapy Session, you will begin with a 45 Minute Initial Assessment to evaluate your injury or areas of concern, including your exercise history, access to equipment, and goals. By the end of your session you can expect an exercise prescription specific to your needs.
Exercise Therapy can also be a stand alone service for those seeking a more focused fitness/strength program design.

Athletes, coaches, teams or sport organizations will want to work with our Sport Physiotherapists to manage a successful return to sport following injury. Our physiotherapists are highly trained in the requirements to return to training and competition in many sports, including contact, throwing, racquet, endurance and both team and individual events.
We will help design the necessary steps to manage a safe and successful return to sport. We will communicate with your team as required and will help navigate the path with exercise prescription, fitness, and program design, marrying these concepts with your sports’ technical requirements.

Post Operative Rehab is an important part of recovery after most orthopaedics surgeries to ensure proper healing, minimize scar tissue, re-establish joint range of motion, improve muscular strength, and retrain neuromuscular control. At Form Physiotherapy, we will provide you with a personalized treatment plan, in concert with your surgeon’s post-op protocol, to maximize your recovery.
If you are specifically looking for a Post-Operative Physiotherapy Session, you will begin with a 45 Minute Initial Assessment, which will consist of a thorough assessment to test your baseline strength and range of motion, followed by a personalized treatment plan based on the healing timeline for your specific surgery. The duration of your Follow Up Sessions will be recommended based on the complexity of your surgery.
If you are attending a physiotherapy session after a Total Knee Replacement (TKR) or Total Hip Replacement (THR) covered by a Vancouver Coastal Health Voucher, please inform our front desk staff or your physiotherapist prior to your appointment.
A Vancouver Coastal Health Voucher will typically cover:
12 Private Physiotherapy Sessions for TKR
3 Private Physiotherapy Sessions for THR

Telehealth Physiotherapy is the delivery of physiotherapy services through electronic communication, like a video or by telephone. During these sessions you can expect education, exercise guidance, and treatment planning for your specific injury. Telehealth Physiotherapy can be very beneficial for clients who are unable to attend in-person sessions but require a continuation in care, for example going on vacation, an illness, or are lacking mobility due to an injury. Telehealth can also provide a level of oversight into your home exercise strategy.
For Telehealth sessions, you will need an internet connection (Google Chrome required for our platform) or telephone number where your therapist can reach you. We recommend good Wi-Fi signal. If you are choosing a video appointment, your Form Physiotherapist will send you a link at the time of your booking. We ask that you check the link (video and speaker) and your Wi-Fi connection at least 1-hour prior to your appointment, this will allow your appointment to start on time. NOTE: unique consent is required for telehealth appointments, please check your Jane Forms prior to this visit.
Telehealth session can be done through video or telephone communication. If you are booking your appointment online, please specify in the notes section which communication you prefer.
